Further to my post above:
Fridays state on their website that:
“The hens are fed at the same time each day and hens will return to the laying house at regular intervals throughout the day to feed, drink and excrete droppings. The majority (c.90%) of droppings are produced inside the laying houses.”
To put this into context, a healthy chicken will expel “normal” faeces on an average of between 12 to 15 times per day, around the clock.
Free ranging chickens produce about 40kg (90 lbs) of droppings per hen per year.
192,000 chickens would be expected to produce around 7,680,000 kg or 7680 metric tonnes per year. Even if Fridays claim that 90% of droppings are produced inside the laying houses, that still means the other 10%, or 768 metric tonnes, is being excreted on the open farm land with the potential of ending up in the River Beult. I expect the actual figure would be even higher.
